Are you an alumna*us of Stiftung Mercator and interested in languages? Again this year, Stiftung Mercator supports your language course in Chinese, German or Turkish, also digitally! Applications are possible until 30 April 2021.
Alena's language course in Izmir
Mercator alumna Alena is active as moderator in her free time and even has her own radio show. In her weekly German-Turkish radio show Hola güzel Hamburg on Tide 96.0, well-articulated and dialect-free Turkish is especially important. Although Alena grew up speaking German and Turkish, learning grammar and "high Turkish" intensively was her next goal. Through Mercator Alumni Language Support, Alena was able to attend an intensive language learning course in Izmir, Turkey in 2020. And now she shines in conversation with her newfound Turkish skills!
Mercator alumni have the opportunity to receive a one-time grant of up to 500 EUR for further language training. Participation in courses (face-to-face courses or online seminars) in the target languages Chinese, German and Turkish can be funded.
What are the eligibility requirements?
The sponsored course should comprise at least 25 teaching units. If participating in an intensive course, the minimum duration is 1 week. The grant can also be used for travel expenses and costs of accommodation at the language course location (also abroad).
How can I apply for the grant?
To apply for the alumni grant, fill out our online application form at least six weeks before the planned start of the language course. Please explain your motivation for taking the language course and, if applicable, upload proof of your prior knowledge of the target language and other information.
When can I apply for funding?
You can apply until 31 March 2021. The language course for which you are applying for the grant should be completed by 31 December 2021.
