Gregor Christiansmeyer is concerned with the question of what influence international youth exchange can have on understanding and peace. His first stop as a Mercator fellow took him to Albania.

Already during his school years, Gregor Christiansmeyer took part in numerous student exchange programmes from which he still benefits today. The political scientist and historian is convinced that "tolerance on a small scale promotes tolerance on a large scale. His research project during the Mercator Fellowship on International Affairs is "Shaping (Conflict-)History Together? International Youth Exchange in Post-Conflict Regions.". Most recently he worked with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) in Tirana, Albania. There he advocated for reconciliation and cooperation among young people in the Western Balkans.
